What to Look for in an Effective Audit Committee Chair

Regions Recognized for Board Diversity Regions Financial Corp. has been named a Winning "W" Company by the nonprofit 2020 Women on Boards campaign for having 20 percent or more of its board seats held by females, reports the Birmingham Business Journal (April 14, Coker). Regions' board is currently 36 percent diverse based on gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire, CEO of 2020 Women on Boards, remarks, "Regions is an outstanding example of how positive change happens through intentional efforts toward best practices in governance." Over the past couple of years, the board has adopted proxy access; appointed a trio of new independent directors, one of whom is diverse; further expanded the responsibilities of the lead independent director; and enhanced the board's self-evaluation program. It has also assigned oversight of environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility to the board's nominating and corporate governance committee and enhanced director recruitment criteria.
